canyon sunset adventure

After a day of adventures,
relax and re-center at the canyon's edge while watching an enchanting southwestern sunset. Enjoy sunset 800 feet above the Escalante River overlooking the Escalante River Gorge. At our "secret" sunset viewpoint, you'll find yourself contemplating the power of nature, the tenacity of early cultures, and the beauty that surrounds us. In addition to the awesome sunset views, we'll discover traces of Fremont Culture occupation and provide you with an overview of the plants and animals that inhabit the area. Because group size is limited to eight, you'll have a chance to ask plenty of questions about the area and get advice as to what to do with your remaining time in southern Utah.

This is a easy adventure. There is about two miles of hiking involved. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. We will provide you with bottled water. The Canyon Sunset Adventure departs Escalante daily two hours before sunset; call for current departure times. This adventure takes about three hours. To ensure your enjoyment, we will take no more than eight people on this adventure.

slot canyon adventure

Explore
the slots that make the monument famous. See first hand what happens when rushing water meets exposed sandstone...slot canyons! You'll appreciate the power of erosion as we traverse these wonders of nature. These canyons and the surrounding desert terrain can be extremely dangerous for the unprepared, but we have the experience and knowledge to get you through the difficult stretches.

This is a strenuous adventure. There is about three miles of hiking involved. This adventure is not for anyone that is claustrophobic. Additionally, all participants must be able to fit through a ten inch wide slot (start that diet today!). Sturdy, closed-toe shoes and a small day pack are required. Bring at least 2 liters of water. The Slot Canyon Adventure departs from Escalante at 8 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. This adventure takes about five and a half hours, usually returning at 1:30-2 p.m. To ensure your enjoyment, we will take no more than eight people on this adventure.

phipps wash adventure

The scenery
rivals Sedona on this adventure to one of the region's most beautiful arches. Phipps Arch is one of the premier arches in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument; however, it can be difficult to find.
Phipps Wash is a wonderful canyon experience contrasting a lush riparian ecosystem with the surrounding harsh desert environment.

Be sure to bring along plenty of film for the camera on this adventure! We'll begin with a hike overland down into the stunning red rocks of Phipps Wash. The scenery rivals Sedona, but the quiet and solitude are incomparable. Birds and other wildlife abound in the rich stream side environment of lower Phipps Wash. The streaked red walls of the canyon contrast nicely with the deep greens of mature Fremont cottonwoods growing in the canyon bottom. Then it's on to Phipps Arch, an exciting ascent out of the canyon to a wonderland of exposed slickrock domes, hoodoos, and the arch.

This is a moderate adventure. There is about six miles of hiking involved with a two hundred foot climb out of the canyon to the arch. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes (boots recommended) and a day pack are required. The Phipps Wash Adventure departs Escalante daily. This adventure takes about five and a half hours. To ensure your enjoyment, we will take no more than eight people on this adventure.

big horn to harris wash loop

A full day
in an area of light visitation. Big Walls, narrows, colorful sandstone, an unusual geologic formation and the chance to observe nesting raptors are some of the rewards of this trip. We start with a dramatic descent thru open washes into narrows and deepening canyon walls until the confluence with larger Harris Wash, an area favored by peregrines for nesting sites. After lunch and a visit to a "hidden" site of interest we return across a swirling orange sandstone bench and skirt sand dunes on the way back to our vehicle and some well deserved ice cold drinks. This trip is not appropriate for children. Lunch and cold drinks are included.9 miles/strenuous 7 to 9 hours hiking time.
